New Times Ahead
The Unionist Party's Proposal for Reforming the Relationship between the Faroes and Denmark
- We want to reform the Home Rule system
- We want to clarify any constitutional matters that may be ambiguous
- We want to emphasise that the Faroese constitute an self-governing Nation within the Union
- We want to maintain the Union and a share the Kingdom's Constitution and Royal Family
- We want to preserve the common personal rights of citizenship
- We want to continue returning two Members to the Danish Parliament
- We want to retain the same currency as Denmark; and Foreign and Defence matters shall remain formally the responsibility of the Central Authorities of the Kingdom
- We want keep essentially the same Judicial system
- We are prepared to gain control over all other policy areas according to the wishes of the Faroese and Danish Parliament respectively
- That way the Faroes become more self-reliant
- That way we will protect and develop the Faroese Welfare-system
- That way we ensure for future generations wide-ranging opportunities in an international context
The Unionist Party recommends that a renewed Home Rule system be formed in close cooperation between Faroese and Danish authorities as the Unionist Party bases its policies on a diverse mutual relationship. Let us all agree on the content of a reformed constitutional arrangement and then draft the relevant legal provisions accordingly.
